Collaborative Robots and Industrial Robot Arms (1)

Collaborative robots are robot arms designed to work next to people without a full safety fence, after a risk assessment of the application. They are light, quick to program and easy to move between tasks, which makes them practical for machine tending, palletizing, screwdriving, inspection and other repetitive work in small and medium production. Xingdaotai Limited sources robot arms, controllers, tooling and spare parts on request.

A robot is only part of a cell. Grippers, vision, safety sensors, fixtures and the program decide whether it works. Send us the task, the part weight and reach, and the machine the robot will serve, and we propose a robot size and the components around it.

Questions and answers

What is a collaborative robot?

A collaborative robot, or cobot, is a robot arm built to share a workspace with people. Force and speed limits, rounded design and built-in safety functions let it stop or slow down on contact. Whether it can run without a fence depends on the risk assessment of the whole application, including the tool and the part, not on the robot alone.

How do I choose the payload and reach of a cobot?

Add the weight of the gripper, the part and any adapter, then keep a margin, because payload drops at full reach and with offset loads. Reach is measured from the base to the farthest point the tool must get to, including approach paths into a machine. Measure the cell layout and the machine door, and we check which arm size covers it.

Which tasks are collaborative robots best suited for?

Repetitive, low-to-medium payload tasks where flexibility matters more than top speed: loading CNC machines, palletizing boxes at the end of a line, screwdriving, gluing, polishing, quality inspection with a camera. For very fast picking or heavy loads, a conventional industrial robot behind a guard is usually the better tool.

How do you supply grippers and accessories for a robot?

Tell us the robot model and the task. Many grippers, vacuum systems, screwdrivers, cameras and force sensors are made for direct mounting on popular robot arms, with plug-in software. We source the robot and its tooling together, so that flange, cables and software match. Spare parts and controllers can be ordered by the robot serial number.
